Distributive Property and Combining Line Terms
Use the Distributive Property to SIMPLIFY the following expressions.
Vocabulary: In this case, simplify means to remove the parenthesis. Distribute the number that is outside the parenthesis to EVERY term that is inside.
Example: –4(–5n – 6) = –4(–5n + –6) = 20n + 24
1. 5(2x + 6)
Simplify the following by combining like terms. Use the distributive property to remove any parenthesis if necessary.
Example: 4x + 3 + 2(3x + 1) = 4x + 3 + 6x + 2 = 4x + 6x + 3 + 2 = 10x + 5
14. 3(2n + 4) – 2(3n + 6)
